Highlights:

  • Tropical Storm Beryl arrives in August. Massive rains and mudslides close road to Cove Creek. Final Circle is had a White Pines group camp site.
  • Eating out of the trash cans on the Blue Ridge Parkway
  • The "Crew-Peas" March Crew (led by Jamie Bronner, Anthony Crupi, and Rachel Sher) are attacked by a particularly hungry skunk. Hilarity ensues.

Theme Songs of Base Camp – Kent McIntosh

 

Hurricane Charlie led to some rained out days and a Base Camp crew with too much time on their hands. I'm not sure whose idea it was, but eventually, each member of Base Camp had a theme song. Some lowlights:

Jill Freydberg - "Gonna buy me a Freyd-berg..." (to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird")

Cherian Mathews - "Cherian, my wayward son!" (to Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son")

Amy Zornitzer- "Zorn-it-zer! She's the woman...with the Midas touch..." (to the theme from Goldfinger)

Mike Hiscock - "I like Hiscock and I cannot lie!" (to Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back")

Robb Carroll and Todd Chaudhry had to share a song - "I want Robb Carroll all night, and Chaudhry every day" (to KISS' "Rock n' Roll All Nite")

At Cove, Base Camp sang "The Basecamp Connection" (to the tune of "The Rainbow Connection"), but my hope is that the lyrics were lost forever...
